First an update on Fred our four legged golf course "Good Will Ambasador." Actually Fred belongs to Tom, our manager, but we all claim a little piece of him. When golfing patrons enter our clubhouse door their first comment is: "Where is Fred." It would be nice to hear them say occasionally--"how are you today Harold"--but no they inquire about Fred's whereabouts and well being. I've grown used to it and it no longer hurts my feelings. In case you haven't figured it out by now Fred is our golf course dog. In some ways Fred has done his job too well. Our course was once loaded with Geese but no longer--they apparently tired of Fred harrasing them from dawn to dusk. Ground Hogs stick close to their underground safety, squirrels stay close to their den trees, deer grow tired of being chased to the deep woods----all because of Fred's vigilance and presumed ownership of the golf course. We do have a family of Bobcats on the course and we continue to hope they will retreat to a tree when confronted by Fred. If he should corner them into a spot where they couldn't retreat, he might meet his match. We don't want that to happen.
The official 2011 golf season is coming to a close and it has been a good year for Teetering Rocks. After much hard work last year and many dollars spent, our course is once again in fine shape. The hot summer of 2010 was devastating to local golf courses, some of which have not yet fully recovered. I think the combination of hard work, better weather and the benefits of the course being family owned have all helped Teetering Rocks this year.
Our Winter golf rates are now official. Hopefully this Winter the weather will be co-operative and we can all enjoy some golf, fresh air and exercise. Generally golf courses in the area are not crowded in the Winter and 18 hole rounds can be completed in less than 3 hours. If the wind is not blowing an enjoyable round of golf can be played even when the temperature is in the mid 40's. 50 degree weather can seem balmy when you are dressed properly so come on out and have some fun.
Thanks to all of you for making this a good year for Teetering Rocks.
